NOW available in size 6!!

I am just a little concerned with what I was reading, so I thought I would share it with you and get your feedback.
An ad caught my eye and it read "NOW available in Size 6!" It went on to say that it was great news for moms and described how absorbant they were. The ad was very proud of the fact that they have changed the packaging to make it easier for "moms" to identify the size of diapers they need to purchase. I compared this to the old packageing and guess what? Yep, there are less diapers per box now. Same great price though.. What I am more concerned about is the type of education that this ad is trying to instill in our way of thinking. Have you ever asked yourself why a mom needs a size 6 diaper. If you read P&G research, they say a baby only needs daipers till age 2 1/2. Last time I checked, a size 5 was big enought for a 3 year old plus. Are they trying to tell us that it is ok that your 4 year old is still in diapers but wait...the new size 6 diaper makes it all better. The worry is that few seasoned moms read this ad. The ad is for new moms. Moms that have never used the old cloth diapers. Moms that don't realize that it is not normal for a toddler after 3 years to still be in diapers. It's not normal that a toddler has to look at the diaper to see what colour it is to know if they have had an "accident." If the child is old enough to reason that if The Cookie Monster is blue I must have gone poo, they are certainly old enough to be potty trained. Moms are potting training their children before the first year. Now there is a great idea.. Why doesn't P&G just offer 3 sizes. Because after that you really don't need diapers any more. I would like to think that it would solve their packaging dilemma at the same time.
As a mom of 5 I know that potty training is at best a challenge! It does take consistency and alot of work and I can see how some parents might choose the larger size diaper choosing to put the 'training' on hold. Barring any medical reasons that a child is still in diapers past the 2.5 year mark I think it comes right down to what's convenient and not what's best for your child. According to today's advertisements the message is clear, it's okay to have your child in diapers until they go to school. WOW! What do you think?? Anita J

As a mother of a very large 3 year old (50lbs & 50" tall, who's in size 5-6 clothes) he was in size 6 diapers by the time he was 2 years old. Not all kids are the same size and not all follow the 'average' weight and height ratio. My son didn't potty train until just after his 3rd birthday, and trust me, we tried before that, however I firmly believe that you can try as you might, but kids will not train until they are truly ready and something 'clicks' for them. Every child is different.
Not all kids train by 2.5, and that's ok! I don't think there should be a stigma placed on kids who take longer or for parents who wait longer. To each their own.

I completely agree with you.. my daughter is 18 months and she is almost completely potty trained with a few accidents throughout the day! She was telling me at one year when she had to poop! There should be no need for diapers for children older than 3.

For the mother of a very large 3 year old. Are you aware of the HAPPY NAPPY promise? If your baby is not toilet trained bt 30 months your service is free after that point. Win win for someone in your case. I also want to point out that the national average of toilet training has jumped to over 30 months. It is now very close to 3.2 years.

This is in reference to what Brent P. said about the national average jumping to almost 3.2 years....Is it all remotely possible that the disposable diaper companies could have anything to do with this? Children can't possibly be getting less capable as time goes on, they use to potty train around 18 months (on average), why would it now be taking 36 + months? I think this is exactly what all the disposable diaper companies want, parents to think that their children are not able to potty train sooner-it means more $$$$ in their pockets. More absorbent chemicals in bigger diapers means later potty training (over 30 months).

Brent P here. I think what this all started with was a observation about how sizes are changing. Like cloths, sizes have been changing over the years. If you take a diaper size 3 from 10 years ago (one of our daughters) and compare it to a 2009 size 3 there is a difference!!. they are smaller and less product in the diaper. I never wrote it down but i remember also that there were more in the box than what there is now. We all are aware of delayed babies for toilet training and I know that in some cases this might never happen. Again I feel that the comment was aimed at the industry pushing disposable diapers. There have been many comments that i have not published. I did want everyone to realize that I did email the first person who started this and they never meant to offend any parent or their children. I was more of a comment on how powerful the media has become specifically, if you have a couple of million dollars to place one tv ad...If you watch the add in question, those children are not in any way disabled. Again, it would be interesting to see a size 6 of today compared to a size 5 from 10 years ago. All I had was a size 3 to compare. If any one has one from way back, please give me a call 1 866 988 4040.

you know there are many children who have several disabilities that can't learn to potty-train as easily as other children so the bigger-size diapers are okay to me!

kids come in all shapes and sizes. i have 2 girls that are 16 months apart. my almost 4 year old is of course potty trained now, but when she was still in diapers with my now 2 1/2 year old, instead of buying 2 different size diapers i bought one big box of size 5 for them both to wear. My OLDEST wore the smaller size. now we are starting to potty train our youngest, she will be 3 in October. and is wearing a size 6. my girls share clothes size 2-3 even though one is 4. kids come in different shapes and sizes.

We're off on a 3 week road trip in August and will really miss our Happy Nappy diapers. We are happy to use compostable diapers as a back up (broody chicks are the fave at the moment) but are eagerly awaiting your new and improved diaper system - please post an update for us soon!
